Who Is EMDR Therapy for?

EMDR is for anyone who wants to heal

Helping our brain process information so we can heal and move on

EMDR helps anyone experiencing the effects of trauma to heal. Throughout our life we may experience an event that happens so quickly or unexpectedly that our brain isn’t able to process the information it receives quickly enough. So it stores the information in the nervous system. This information sits there unresolved, cueing our subconscious to react sometimes as if we’re in flight or fight mode. For many, it causes serious anxiety.

The events include any kind of trauma, long term or short, and PTSD. And like I said on my post What Is EMDR, it’s been very helpful for our veterans whose experiences in combat are resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder.

So many people have experienced either an incident, a situation or something in their childhood that causes them to act in ways they want to change. But can’t. EMDR helps many of these people to let go of baggage and move forward.

EMDR Therapy is for a single traumatic event

A single traumatic event can cause serious trauma

EMDR is for anyone

Let’s take one of my friends, for example. Her father in law was driving a scooter on a gorgeous day. His wife, sitting behind him wearing a summer dress, put on a helmet. They only had one. A man coming off his night shift fell asleep at the wheel and hit a massive metal pole. I think you know where I’m heading with this. The pole came down at just the right time and speed to hit the father. And decapitate him. My friend would freak whenever she saw a truck similar to the one that hit the pole.

EMDR is for many types of trauma

  • People experiencing rape or a violent personal assault of some sort are good candidates for EMDR therapy
  • People raised by one or more narcissistic parents are good candidates for EMDR therapy.
  • Sexually abused children and sex traffic survivors will – in my opinion – are highly likely to be helped by EMDR.
  • People who —for whatever reason, suffer from anxiety are often helped through EMDR.

EMDR has faster results

EMDR Therapy is for anyone who wants to see faster results from whatever trauma is affecting their lives.

It’s a relatively new treatment that’s revolutionizing psychotherapy. EMDR therapy is different from other types of therapy because the results are often much faster and the treatment is very different from traditional EMDR.
